What is God Saying to me?

Thriving in Relationships

Genesis 1:26-28 – 26 Then God said, “Let Us make man in Our image, according to Our likeness; let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, over the birds of the air, and over the cattle, over all]the earth and over every creeping thing that creeps on the earth.”27 So God created man in His own image; in the image of God He created him; male and female He created them.

28 Then God blessed them, and God said to them, “Be fruitful and multiply; fill the earth and subdue it; have dominion over the fish of the sea, over the birds of the air, and over every living thing that moves on the earth.”

Genesis 12:1-3 –  Now the Lord had said to Abram:  “Get out of your country,  From your family  And from your father’s house, To a land that I will show you. 2 I will make you a great nation; I will bless you And make your name great; And you shall be a blessing. 3 I will bless those who bless you, And I will curse him who curses you; And in you all the families of the earth shall be blessed.”

Our most intimate relationships are often the sources of our greatest joy and deepest sorrow.  We were created to desire closeness, but the corruption of sin can make it very difficult to develop and maintain abundant relationships.  I believe we have hope though!  We have the opportunity to learn from The One who created relationship.  We can follow His pattern and begin to unlock the supernatural power of blessing.

It’s now Tuesday morning.  How has God spoken to you so far this week?  Have you been able to reassess your approach to your spouse… to your children?  God created us and then blessed us…can we do the same?  The challenge for all of us is to take stock of how we approach our most personal relationships and begin to build them by blessing them.  Be A Blessing!!  It opens such wonderful doors and fills us with such great peace.  Make the conscience choice to bless others this week and watch how God will lift your eyes…

  1. Then He brought him outside and said, “Look now toward heaven, and count the stars if you are able to number them.” And He said to him, “So shall your descendants be.”

Thriving in Trials and Temptations

Hebrews 10: 35-36

35 Therefore do not cast away your confidence, which has great reward. 36 For you have need of endurance, so that after you have done the will of God, you may receive the promise

The greatest arrow of the enemy is not that we would deny Christ and turn away, but rather that we would grow weary and slowly begin to pull back.  This ever-so-subtle shrinking will ultimately leave us feeling isolated and alone… ripe for the attack of doubt and despair that causes us to give in or give up.  Lord, help us in our weakness, that we will never cast away our confidence.

Trials and temptation are guaranteed.  We don’t necessarily enjoy talking about this aspect of our faith but we go through tough stuff.  The key to thriving in the midst of these battles is never losing perspective on who is the enemy and who gets the victory.  The enemy is always satan.  Sin has consequences that cause us pain… when we go through the fire we need to always remember that we are part of a greater battle.  “We are not saved to a cruise ship but a battleship.”  Understanding the enemy can help us maintain focus on the mission.  Similarly, we need to focus on who gets the victory.  The battle is the Lord’s.  We persevere for His glory.  We endure so that we can receive the Promise, which is eternal life!   We thrive in trials because in our weaknesses He is made strong.

Pastor Tom’s 4 keys to thriving in trials and temptation:

1.     Maintain a good confession of faith among many believers without wavering.

2.     Cultivate a worshipful, thankful heart

3.     Fill your heart with the Word of God

4.     Keep sowing to the Spirit and don’t hold back

Thriving Inside

Romans 11:33

O the depth of the riches both of the wisdom and knowledge of God! how unsearchable are his judgments, and his ways past finding out!

I continue to be amazed at how deep and wide God is.  It’s just like the song we sang a few weeks ago… “the more I seek you, the more I find you.. the more I find you, the more I love you”  There is no end to the depth of the riches of the wisdom and knowledge of God.

He knows you, He gets you, He understands your circumstances… AND HE CHOOSES YOU!!  To me, that doesn’t add up.  I believe most of us suffer from a common malady that convinces us that if anyone really knew us they would not only reject us but they would overwhelmingly convince everyone else to do the same.  Not so with our creator.  When we step up to the edge of His wisdom and knowledge we see our true condition and we see His love for us in spite of that condition and we marvel…  There is a moment of complete awe that convinces us that He must truly be God and there is nowhere He could go that we wouldn’t follow.  That, my friends, is the essence of a Thriving Mind!

You see, we thrive when we see the picture clearly and can orient our decision making accordingly.  When we encounter the fullness of what Christ did for us on the cross, we have no choice but to orient our thinking to that reality.  We begin to gain perspective we never had.  We begin to see people in a new light.  We lose our need to compete because we realize that God is calling them just like He is calling us.  Jesus will give you a new reality… He will renew your mind!

My prayer for you is that an exchange takes place in your mind.  I know we all suffer the attacks of Satan.  He is accusing you and attempting to beguile you with the lust of deceit.  My prayer is that you begin to hear a different voice… the voice of the Holy Spirit calling you to a thriving awareness of your acceptance and validation in Christ.  I firmly believe this voice has a different way of looking at the world and a different way for you to engage in it.  THE Spirit is one worth sitting under.

For those who were interested in practicing the four steps to “Thriving Inside” from Sunday night, I am listing them below.  As you try them, don’t forget to journal your progress and thank Him for His Grace and Salvation.

1.    Washing with the Water of The Word

2.    Practice the presence of The Holy Spirit

3.    Identify and capture your thoughts

4.    Purpose to reveal the Cross in all things

Thriving in Prayer

Isa. 30:18-19 “The Lord longs to be gracious to you, and therefore He waits on high to have compassion on you….He will surely be gracious to you at the sound of your cry; when He hears it, He will answer you.”

Oftentimes we go to our place of prayer wondering whether God truly hears us and desires to give us our requests.  How would our prayer experience changed if we went to God believing that He truly wants to shower us with His blessings?  To really believe God when He says, “Do not be afraid, little flock, for your Father has chosen gladly to give you the kingdom.” Luke 12:32
